Drawing the hunting mechanism of the chameleon, coloring with watercolor pencils and stippling on paper.
The
chameleon uses his tongue, which can exceed the length of his own body,
in order to hunt. They release the tongue with an acceleration that can
exceed 40 g (4 times the acceleration of a jet) thanks to the hyoid
bone and the elasticity of the tongue. The bone is placed between the
lower jaw as an articulate linkage. In order to project the tongue they
preload most of the motion's total energy into elastic tissues in their
tongue. With the help of its sticky tip they catch their prey, mainly
insects.
